Newborn & baby Photography at home

Crewe, Nantwich, Sandbach & Cheshire, UK.

Here is a selection of images from a recent shoot at home. A really chilled out family, and I guess I spent a hour or so with them in order to document life with their brand new baby daughter. Of course you never know how things are going to go with babies, and there have been occasions where things have run slightly less smoothly. Health visitor appointments, nappy changing, needing a feed, explosions of the worst kind etc. But none of that from baby Freya! She was happy to just go with the flow and let us do our thing!

So we had a quick cup of tea and a hello chat while Freya had a bottle. Then Dad did a quick spot of ironing while I got started. (Even baby grows look better ironed. It's not something you might think of... but a wrinkle free outfit is less distracting, so it's always a plus!)

Freya's big brother is into dinosaurs, so you can see we had capture them in their "Little Sister" and "Big Brother" clothes. We also had a robot dino in there too, it had to be done! Sentimental gifts, blankets, toys etc are always a good idea. For this type of documentary photography, these things which may seem like small details right now, will help fuel important memories in the future. Like a switch, triggering a flow of associated memories of your home, life and each other.

That's not to say it's all about looking back. Your want your images should be a reflection and a celebration and a of your lives right now, and when you see them in print, that's when they really come to life. (I don't know why it makes such a difference, but it definitely does, holding an actual physical print in your hand is 100 times more special than just seeing it on a screen.)

Anyway - back to the shoot. Blake (big brother in this story), wasn't totally sure he wanted to play along with me. He resisted, but I knew eventually I'd get him where I wanted him! I just had to wait until he was ready to get in the shot and let him do things his was. He soon crept up on Freya to see what was going on and so I was able to get all these lovely images of them together.
